NSWNMA Stronger Together Awards 2025

This year, the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association is excited to launch the NSWNMA Stronger Together Awards 2025, celebrating the outstanding contributions and strong voices within our professions for International Day of the Midwife and International Nurses Day.

These awards aim to recognise NSWNMA members who demonstrate our values of activism, collectivism, courage, innovation and integrity, and a commitment to improving healthcare across all sectors in NSW, inspiring others through their work, dedication and tenacity.

We have three categories for the NSWNMA Stronger Together Awards 2025, with one nominee selected to win the overall Member of the Year award.

Categories and prizes

Community Award

Our Community Award celebrates NSWNMA financial members who have significantly improved health outcomes in either their local community or a marginalised community in NSW.

Activism Award

Our Activism Award will recognise a NSWNMA financial member who has advocated for better workplace conditions, improved pay, or the interests of nurses, midwives or carers.

Rising Star Award

Our Rising Star Award recognises those who are leading the way, inspiring others and making a significant impact on the nursing or midwifery workforce in their first five years of practice.

Member of the year Award

This award aims to recognise an exceptional nurse, midwife, or carer who has demonstrated excellence in care, leadership, mentorship, or whose contributions have positively advanced the nursing or midwifery profession.

Member of the Year

Certificate and a $1,200 Digital Visa Gift Card.*

Community Award, Activism Award and Rising Star Award

Each award winner will receive a certificate and a $800 Digital Visa Gift Card*.

Nominee lucky draw

As an incentive, all nominators will go in the random draw to win one of eight $50 Digital Visa Gift Cards*.

Who should apply?

In line with our focus on diversity and inclusion, we strongly encourage nominations from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and LGBTQI+ individuals. We are proud to elevate diverse voices who make a significant impact in nursing and midwifery in NSW.

NSWNMA members are encouraged to apply from across all sectors including aged care, private, primary, and public health.

31 March 2025: Nominations and submissions open. 27 April 2025: Nominations and submissions close. 5 May 2025: Finalists announced. 12 May 2025: Winners announced.

General information and eligibility criteria

General information for nominations
  • Nominators must inform those they are nominating for an award and gain consent.
  • Nominees must be members of the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association.
  • Nominees may be contacted by the NSWNMA to provide additional information, including a photo or to participate in video content.
  • Nominees must meet the eligibility criteria to be considered for shortlisting.
  • The judging panel will consist of a Committee of NSWNMA Councillors.
  • The judging panel’s decision is final, and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
  • All required fields must be completed and criteria must be addressed for the nomination to be considered valid. Nominations must be submitted online. No hardcopy applications will be accepted. If you experience any issues submitting nominations online, please email: nswnursescomms@nswnma.asn.au

General Eligibility Criteria
  • Nominees must consent to their nomination before an entry is submitted.
  • Nominations will be accepted from 9:00am on Monday, 31 March 2025 to 11:59pm on Sunday, 27 April 2025.
  • Both self-nominations and peer nominations are accepted.
  • A nominee can be entered into multiple categories using separate nomination forms but can only be successful for one category.
  • If a nominee is selected as the Member of the Year, they will not be eligible to win in any other category for that year. Additionally, the Member of the Year will not be eligible for any other categories for three years following their win.
  • A previous winner cannot receive a second award in the same category but can be considered for recognition in a different category in subsequent years.
  • Unsuccessful nominees, including previous finalists, may be re-nominated in subsequent years.
  • Current NSWNMA Councillors are not eligible to be nominees. However, they are welcome to submit nominations.
  • The judging panel reserves the right to move a nomination to a more suitable category if deemed necessary.
  • Entry into the NSWNMA Stronger Together Awards 2025 is deemed acceptance of the eligibility criteria, general information, privacy policy and Terms and Conditions.
  • Successful nominees will not be eligible to receive the incentive lucky draw $50 prize.
Eligibility for Member of the Year, Community Award, and Activism Award
  • Nominees must have at least two years of financial membership of the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association, Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (NSW Branch).
  • Retired members are eligible, provided they have held a financial membership of the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association, Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (NSW Branch) for at least two years at some stage of their career.
  • Associate (student) NSWNMA members are not eligible
Eligibility for the Rising Star Award
  • Nominees must be in their initial five years of practice.
  • Only members and associate (student) members of the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association, Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (NSW Branch) are eligible.
  • Nominees must have been NSWNMA members for at least three months.
Terms and conditions

Nominators confirm that all information provided in the nomination is complete and accurate to the best of their knowledge. They acknowledge that any false or misleading statements may result in disqualification from the awards process.

Nominators agree to abide by the eligibility criteria, privacy policy, terms, and conditions outlined by the NSW Nurses & Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA).

Nominators understand that submission of this nomination does not guarantee selection and that the judging panel’s decision is final. The judging panel reserves the right to move a nomination to a more suitable category if deemed necessary.

Nominators acknowledge that all nominations must be submitted by the deadline (9:00am on Monday, 31 March 2025, to 11:59pm on Sunday, 27 April 2025) and that late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Entry into the NSWNMA Stronger Together Awards 2025 is deemed acceptance of the eligibility criteria, general information, privacy policy and Terms and Conditions.

Nominators understand the prizes outlined in the NSWNMA Stronger Together Awards 2025 are Digital Visa Gift Cards and cannot be printed as a voucher; they are not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash. They come with a 3-year expiry date. Winner’s (and recipients) must have a valid AU mobile number to use anywhere Digital Visa Gift Cards are accepted.

Who can nominate for the NSWNMA Stronger Together Awards?
  • Both self-nominations and peer nominations are accepted. Nominees must be members of the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association. Please refer to the eligibility criteria for specific requirements regarding the length and financial status of membership for each category.
  • Members of the community (e.g., patients and clients or carers and support persons of patients and clients) can also nominate someone for an award
Can I nominate someone for more than one award category?
  • Yes, but each nomination must be submitted separately for each category and answers need to be tailored to each award category.
Can I nominate someone without their consent?
  • No, nominees must consent to their nomination before an entry is submitted.
I am an associate (student member), what I am eligible to apply for?
  • Associate student members are only eligible to apply for the Rising Star Award.
  • To apply, you must have been a member of the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association / Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (NSW Branch) for at least three months.
Is there any cost associated with submitting a nomination?
  • No, submitting a nomination is free of charge. All individuals who submit a nomination will automatically be entered into a draw to win one of eight $50 Digital Visa Gift Cards*.
  • Please note, if you are a successful award winner, you will no longer be eligible for the random draw.
What happens if I have trouble submitting a nomination online?
  • If you encounter issues, please contact nswnursescomms@nswnma.asn.au for assistance. Please note that no assistance will be provided after 5 pm Friday, 25 April 2025.
Where can I use the Digital Visa Gift Cards?
  • The Digital Visa Gift Card will be sent direct to the winner’s mobile phone number where it can be added to their wallet. It’s compatible with Apple Pay, Google Pay and Android Pay. The winner (recipient) must have a valid AU mobile number and the Digital Visa Gift Card can be used anywhere Visa cards are accepted. The Digital-only gift card cannot be printed as a voucher or transferred and comes with a minimum 3-year expiry date.
