New polling in six key marginal seats around the country shows voters believe the Abbott Government has no plan to create jobs, will make more cuts to health and education and that the Federal Budget does nothing to protect the living standards of working families.
The ReachTel survey was carried out in the marginal federal seats of Corangamite (Vic), Page (NSW), Hindmarsh (SA), Leichhardt (Qld), Braddon (Tas) and Swan (WA).**
• The majority of voters surveyed (up to 73 per cent) do not believe the Abbott Government is doing enough to create jobs and improve job security in their area
• The majority of voters surveyed (up to 55 per cent) think the Abbott Government will make more cuts to health and education funding
• The majority of voters surveyed (up to 53 per cent) do not believe the federal budget does enough to protect the living standards of working families
The six federal seats are among around 30 key marginal seats the ACTU will target at the next federal election.
ACTU Secretary Dave Oliver and President Ged Kearney will launch the Build a Better Future campaign plan, including a new workers’ rights charter, at the ACTU Congress that gets underway in Melbourne today.
Over the next three days, a thousand delegates from around Australia will vote on the policies that will shape campaigning and lobbying by the union movement for the next three years, including paid parental leave, superannuation, penalty rates, the minimum wage and job security in the new digital economy.
ACTU President Ged Kearney said, “Out of this Congress we’ll see unions campaigning on the ground and lobbying the crossbench on a range of issues including paid parental leave, increasing women’s super and extending super to teenage workers, and regulating labour hire agencies to stop the exploitation of foreign workers.
