In 2013, the NSWNMA was a founding member, along with nursing and midwifery unions from 14 nations, of Global Nurses United. The Association is also affiliated with Public Services International (PSI), a global trade union federation whose members deliver public services such as healthcare.

The NSWNMA is affiliated with the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) and with Unions NSW.
