Coalition Government moves to stop aged care wages supplement

The new federal Coalition Government has issued an Aged Care Subsidies Amendment (Workforce Supplement) Determination 2013  which prevents new applications for the workforce supplement in aged care (which formed part of the Living Longer Living Better aged care reform package passed by the previous Labor Government).

The Coalition had already expressed its intention to “review” the aged care compact prior to the September 7 election and has stated that it will discontinue the supplement. Aged care workers have already had pay offers withdrawn by employers.

No new applications from aged care providers can be made for the supplement as from September 26, 2013.

Applications already made will still be considered and those that have been approved will continue to receive funding.
