The New South Wales Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) is the registered union for those in the nursing and midwifery professions.
The NSWNMA represents the industrial interests of nurses and midwives employed in NSW in the public, private, aged care and disability sectors. Our role is to protect the interests of nurses, midwives and the nursing and midwifery professions.
We also represent and provide for the professional, educational and industrial welfare of nurses and midwives in government and non-government forums at state, national and international level.
The NSWNMA works in association with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) and NSWNMA members are also members of the New South Wales Branch of the ANMF.
Membership fees payable by members are determined by Council and subject to approval at Annual Conference. Any change in fees will be communicated to members, including by publication in The Lamp magazine.
Fees are charged either annually, quarterly, monthly or fortnightly and may be paid via electronic means or by cash or cheque.
For members who have authorised NSWNMA to debit their bank account or credit card, the NSWNMA will debit the appropriate account as the fees fall due. Additional amounts for outstanding fees will only be debited if we are specifically authorised to do so.
A member whose fees are more than three months in arrears shall be deemed unfinancial and shall not be entitled to any membership rights and/or privileges.
A member may resign from membership by written notice. The options are:
- If no longer nursing, a resignation is effective as at the date the written advice is received.
- Otherwise, a resignation takes effect two weeks after the notice is received, or on the date specified in the notice, whichever is later.
The NSWNMA will act in accordance with its Privacy Statement, while noting that a member’s financial institution may require information to be provided in connection with a claim relating to an alleged incorrect or wrongful debit. The NSWNMA will investigate and deal promptly with any queries, claims or complaints regarding debits and provide a response within 20 business days.
NSWNMA offers a range of products available for purchase including education courses and merchandise. For all purchases a tax invoice will be issued at the time of purchase.
If a refund or exchange is required, please contact the NSWNMA. Any refunds provided will be processed on the same card as the original payment. For purchases with delivery fees, these fees will not be refunded unless the refund is due to a fault of the Association.
