NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) General Secretary, Brett Holmes, will meet with nurses and midwives in Dubbo today to address growing concerns around patient safety at Dubbo Base Hospital.
The NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) Dubbo branch has dealt with ongoing skill mix and workloads issues since the hospital opened 18 months ago.
A ‘lunch on the lawn’ event opposite Dubbo Base Hospital will explore how the lack of senior nurses on shift has resulted in junior nurses being placed in unsupported and unsafe situations where they are required to make decisions beyond their level of experience.
The branch is seeking additional nursing education staff to ensure nurses are appropriately skilled to enable the delivery of safe patient care.
