Statement on Bondi Junction tragedy

The New South Wales Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) expresses our deepest sympathies to all those impacted by the tragic events at Bondi Junction on Saturday 13 April.

The effects of this tragedy are being felt deeply by not only the local community but the whole country.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends who’ve lost loved ones, and the victims who remain in hospital,.

We acknowledge the nurses and healthcare workers who are providing care to victims, their families and others who may be affected. Incidents like this highlight the extremely difficult nature of work nurses and midwives experience.

We would also like to express our admiration for the first responders, particularly the police and paramedics, as well as the brave bystanders who rendered assistance to victims.

Even in our state’s toughest times, our frontline workers are always there when we need them, doing their jobs and caring for the community. To the people who are delivering the best possible care to the victims and supporting their families with kindness, compassion and professionalism – thank you.

We acknowledge this has been a deeply traumatic event for many. If you or someone you love needs help, please reach out to support services.
