Our thoughts are with our members and their communities in the areas affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. At times like these, it is good to remember that the Association can be of practical assistance for members impacted by these types of events.
Know your work rights
Your workplace agreement and employer policies will outline your rights and obligations in these situations. For example, for members working in the Public Health System, there are provisions in the Award and NSW Health policy to access leave in circumstances related to natural disasters, including where your ability to get to or from work is affected. This includes FACS and Special Leave. You may also be required to be re-deployed depending on service changes.
For members working in private hospitals, aged care facilities, or other workplaces, the specifics of your entitlements will vary according to your employer and Enterprise Agreement, where applicable.
If you are unsure, please contact the Association for advice on your individual circumstances.
It is imperative that all members put their safety first, both at work and in the community. If you require assistance in a life-threatening emergency, please call 000. For assistance relating to flooding or storm damage, please call the NSW State Emergency Service on 132 500.
